This is my “now” page where I’ll explain what I’m doing now.
What I was doing before “Now”
To do this, let’s explain what I’ve been doing up to this point, but very briefly: I was working in London as a typesetter for design and marketing companies online. In 2005 I set up robcubbon.com and in 2006 I started blogging. I immediately started doing graphic design work from home and in 2008 I was able to “give up working” and concentrate on my business full-time which, by this point, included web design.
Great! But I started to get bored and, inspired by Tim Ferriss and Pat Flynn, I began concentrating of improving the passive income flow in my business. I am now making more money from sales of my video courses than I am from doing graphic and web design for clients.
In 2014, my marriage having failed, I set off to travel the world with a laptop. I’ve visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Germany, Czech republic, Austria and Slovakia. However, in May 2015, my Dad died. This has curtailed my travel plans somewhat as we’re trying to make sure my Mum can live on her own for the first time ever at the age of 85.
Despite this, now, I’m living in Chiang Mai on a short 2 month stint. Life’s not that bad. 🙂 I was in Chiang Mai last year and, let me tell you, Chiang Mai is the best place in the world to be working in an online business. In London, where I’m from, I might go to an entrepreneurial meetup every fortnight or so. Here, I can talk business 24/7, if I really want to.
What am I doing now?
I’ve just put the finishing touches to a couple of new courses, a free one Set Up WordPress And Blog: A Crash Course In Web Publishing and a paid one Content Marketing: Get Visitors And Customers With Zero Advertising. So at the moment I’m promoting those for Black Friday, etc.
Chiang Mai is a great place to work on various projects. I was able to find a DSLR camera, tripod, radio lapel mic and videographer to help me with some video work – all in less than 24 hours!
I’m also working on client projects (although I outsource most of these it takes a bit of time).
I’ve just written a blog post: 8 Reasons To NOT Become An Entrepreneur (And 9 Reasons Why You Should) and I’m experimenting with Facebook ads.
OK, enough already.
As you can see, I’m not doing a great deal. There’s a reason for that.
I’ve noticed that I’m coming towards an entrepreneurial “change of life”. I’m bored of my core business. Yes, it’s a solid brand and something that I can fall back on but I essentially feel as if I’m in the same place with it as I was last year.
So what I’m really doing now?
I’m looking for another business venture to get my teeth into. One of the great privileges of our life is that we can reinvent ourselves at any moment.
I have a bit of time and a bit of profit to plough into the creation of a new brand. Which direction am I going to go with it? Hmm, not sure, but at the moment I’m concentrating on a brand in the health and personal development niche to sell on Amazon FBA.
I’m also interested in setting up a productized service business creating unique image quotes for businesses to share on social media.
However, Amazon FBA is the shiny object that is capturing most of my attention at the moment.
Personal goals
I’m trying to keep up with my daily meditation routine. (I’m still meditating daily, I’m just not very well). I’m also trying to keep up with my physical exercise routine. (This has been going really badly, two runs in a month, not good!) I have also been trying to drink less alcohol and eat more healthily. (I’ll report mixed results here, the northern Thai army’s crackdown on late night drinking has definitely helped although I disagree in principle with this measure).
I’m also trying not to work all the time and explore the beautiful countryside of northern Thailand. I hope to do the 300+ km trip to Pai soon, that’s a lovely drive.
I hope you enjoyed my “Now” page. I’ll endeavor to keep you/it updated. Sawat Dee Krup!
