One of the most asked questions on graphic design forums is: “How much I should charge?” Well, the answer is, I don’t know! But here is a list of my most recent price quotes. These design estimates include image sourcing and copy editing but assume images and most text have already been supplied or paid for separately.
Job | Price |
---|---|
Design and artwork of 8 page A4 brochure | £250 |
Design and artwork of DL flyer | £150 |
Design and production of 20 page interactive PDF | £500 |
Design and artwork of 100 page booklet | £3000 |
And, while I’m about it, I might as well include some digital print quotes.
Job | Price |
---|---|
500 off 8 page staple stitched A4 brochure on 115 gsm glossy | £580 |
500 off A5 flyer on 135gsm glossy | £150 |
500 off business cards on 300gsm coated | £70 |
500 off 100 page booklet on 115gsm glossy spiral bound | £3000 |
Here is the caveat: “Remember these are estimates and may be revised downwards if less than expected work is needed.”

Hi Rob,
that’s quite an interesting post.
this got me thinking…
do you think customer might be interested in lowering costs by doing these prints overboard?
i’m thinking now about giving you some quotes on digital prints here in Bucharest.
thanks,
webee.

Hi webee,
That’s an excellent thought! Many people here in the UK print abroad to lower cost. Have to remember to factor in the cost of delivery to the UK though.
I’ve noticed that many of the Google searches that end up at my site are looking for quotes or estimates and it is a difficult thing to find on the internet so this is definitely a good subject to cover.
All the best, Rob

The prices are in from Bucharest!
The design costs are similar. I charge about £25/hour (that’s GB pounds). They charge €30/hour.
Webee gave me the following digital printing prices:
€721 for 500 off the 8 page brochure
€100 for 500 off the A5 flyer
€95 for 500 off the business cards
€816 for 500 off the 100 page A5 booklet
The last one is an incredible saving. Thanks again, webee, for your input!
Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob!
I’ve just found your website-blog and I like it very much from what I’ve seen sofar. I’m also a freelancer in Graphics and Product Design in based in Athens, Greece.
The printing costs over here are almost the same as in the U.K.
As for the creative fees, I’m charging a much less than you guys do, simply to keep a longer collaborating partnership with the client. If I was to charge what my work is really worth (say per hour) then I wouldn’t have any clients 🙂
So for a full page advertisement (including photo scanning, editing, maybe creation of a background if it’s not supplied and the text typing and setting) I’m charging 60 euros. Double page ads are charged 70-80 euros.
For a 16page A4 leaflet – catalog I’m charging somewhere around 220-250 euros.
Logo design: a choice of 6-8 different designs is charged at 50-100 euros (depending on the client’s finacial calibre).
Business cards: a choice of 3- 10(sometimes) different designs at 30-80 euros (client calibre dependent also)
Work per hour is charged as low as 10-15 euros/hour.
As I said previously, all work is charged depending on the client and if I want to keep on working for them or not 😉 (for obvious reasons)

Very interesting, Vangelis “Nailgun” Z, those are very reasonable design prices indeed. Our logo prices are comparable! Here in London you can charge £20-40/hour for design work.
Thank you for your comments.

guys
You’re doing yourselves a dis-service with those prices. We all do it, including me, but we shouldn’t or we get stuck in a cheap-and-cheerful rut.
Aim higher – if you build a decent relationship you can increase your costs to suitable levels – my partner pays £500/day for very average design work in Birmingham, you’ve got to talk the talk!!
Rob Cubbon says
Good point, Becky, I totally agree with you! You don’t get any respect at all in the design and marketing world by offering bargain basement prices. This article was written ages ago and my prices have changed. Although, I can offer your partner a better contact in Birmingham if he’s interested!

Hi Rob,
Great website and very informative!
I’ve been thinking for sometime now that I have been underselling my design skills and have been charging only £15 an hour for work, but think now that I should be earning about twice that. Some projects I can do quite quickly which isn’t really earning me enough money. I have been a designer for the past 8 years since I left Art School.
I am just working on a 36 page magazine that is inserted into a national magazine and wondered how much you would charge for this and also how much for doing a monthly single page A4 newsletter. Pics and Text provided for both projects.
Hope you can give me some advice.
Regards, Em

Hi Em,
Thank you for your encouraging comments about the website. This article was actually written a long time ago and every job is different so they have to be priced accordingly. Here is another post I wrote about charging and rates for graphic design.

Doesn’t sound a lot to me, we specialise in a niche area where the product remains constant albeit across a wide range of clients. We are seeing more competition but prices have generally remained constant
2pp A4 brochure, design artwork, photography and print 3000 gloss lam we charge £3,000
4pp as above £4,500
6pp or 8pp £6,500
We are never asked to itemise design and print costs
Rob Cubbon says
Independent graphic designers should charge less than larger agencies, having said that, this was written a few years ago and the prices do look a bit low now.
