Great website and very informative!

I’ve been thinking for sometime now that I have been underselling my design skills and have been charging only £15 an hour for work, but think now that I should be earning about twice that. Some projects I can do quite quickly which isn’t really earning me enough money. I have been a designer for the past 8 years since I left Art School.

I am just working on a 36 page magazine that is inserted into a national magazine and wondered how much you would charge for this and also how much for doing a monthly single page A4 newsletter. Pics and Text provided for both projects.

Hope you can give me some advice.

You’re doing yourselves a dis-service with those prices. We all do it, including me, but we shouldn’t or we get stuck in a cheap-and-cheerful rut.

Aim higher – if you build a decent relationship you can increase your costs to suitable levels – my partner pays £500/day for very average design work in Birmingham, you’ve got to talk the talk!!

I’ve just found your website-blog and I like it very much from what I’ve seen sofar. I’m also a freelancer in Graphics and Product Design in based in Athens, Greece.

The printing costs over here are almost the same as in the U.K.

As for the creative fees, I’m charging a much less than you guys do, simply to keep a longer collaborating partnership with the client. If I was to charge what my work is really worth (say per hour) then I wouldn’t have any clients

So for a full page advertisement (including photo scanning, editing, maybe creation of a background if it’s not supplied and the text typing and setting) I’m charging 60 euros. Double page ads are charged 70-80 euros.

For a 16page A4 leaflet – catalog I’m charging somewhere around 220-250 euros.

Logo design: a choice of 6-8 different designs is charged at 50-100 euros (depending on the client’s finacial calibre).

Business cards: a choice of 3- 10(sometimes) different designs at 30-80 euros (client calibre dependent also)

Work per hour is charged as low as 10-15 euros/hour.

As I said previously, all work is charged depending on the client and if I want to keep on working for them or not (for obvious reasons)

The design costs are similar. I charge about £25/hour (that’s GB pounds). They charge €30/hour.

Webee gave me the following digital printing prices:
€721 for 500 off the 8 page brochure
€100 for 500 off the A5 flyer
€95 for 500 off the business cards
€816 for 500 off the 100 page A5 booklet

That’s an excellent thought! Many people here in the UK print abroad to lower cost. Have to remember to factor in the cost of delivery to the UK though.

I’ve noticed that many of the Google searches that end up at my site are looking for quotes or estimates and it is a difficult thing to find on the internet so this is definitely a good subject to cover.
