Montage design for music DVDs
I have been working on some CD and DVD packaging for a music creation software company. I love doing stuff to do with music and here I was asked to create some montages to express different musical genres.
The montages will eventually go on large sierra boxes (a sierra box is a large cardboard box for software containing a DVD case and other printed material), DVD cases and the DVDs themselves as well as other promotional material.
Dance music montage

The dance montage was to capture a dance, house, deep house, tech house vibe.
World music montage

This montage was for world, dub, latin, reggae and ethnic.
Rock music montage

And this was for alternative, grunge, rock and pop. What do you think?

Wow! These are very nice montages, Rob. I wish I were like you!
Thank you, Gabriel. But this is easy to do. It’s just a question of playing around with blend modes in the Layers palette in Photoshop, simple gradient masks and colouring. I’ll be doing more tutorials about montages soon.
That is extremely cool. I work at a cd/dvd duplication/packagin company in Chicago. I look forward to your tutorials about montage. Your color schemes are simply amazing. Keep up the good work. I will keep you in mind.
Thank you, Michael, I do a lot of CD/DVD packaging for music/computer games companies and I always enjoy it.
Those are very beautiful montages, how long did it take you to get this process down in photoshop. I am thinking about taking a photoshop class myself to learn these skills.

Very good montages, congratulations!
Thank you Richard, it’s hard to say how long these montages took me in Photoshop as I remember the brief changing a bit as I was doing them but they shouldn’t take more than an hour if you get the right picture combination to start with.
Hello again kalym I’m glad you are inspired by these montages. More design tips in the rest of this website.
Thank you real estate florianopolis.
[...] It was a great bit of work to be involved with. Check out the original montages I did for the packaging. [...]
